Remove the rocker arm assembly and push rod. Maintain the assembly order of the connecting rods.

Check whether the push rod is bent and the contact surface of the rocker shaft wear pad is worn.

See the "Removing the Cylinder Head" section in Chapters 020 or 021.

Remove the cylinder head.

Check for piston bulge.

See the "Removing the Cylinder Head" section in Chapters 020 or 021.

See “Measuring Piston Bump” in Chapter 030.

Remove the camshaft follower post. Maintain the follower column assembly sequence. See “Checking the Camshaft Follower Post” in Chapter 050.

Remove the flywheel.

Remove the flywheel housing.

See “Removing the Flywheel” in Chapter 040.

See “Removing the Flywheel Housing” in Chapter 040.

Remove the oil pan. Drain the oil and remove the oil pan.

Remove the crankshaft pulley. See “Removing the Pulley or Shock Absorber and Pulley” in Chapter 040.

Remove the oil pressure regulating valve assembly and cover (old John Deere John Deere diesel engine) See the "Removing and Installing the Hydraulic Pressure Regulator" section in Chapter 060.

Remove the timing gear cover. See the "Removing the Timing Gear Cover" section in Chapter 050.

Remove the oil pump drive gear, the oil outlet pipe, and the pump body. See the “Removing the John Deere John Deere Diesel Engine Oil Pump” section in Chapter 060.

Remove the timing gear and camshaft. Perform a wear check. See section "Removing the Camshaft" in Chapter 050.
