John Deere Strong Deer Diesel Engine Piston Ring Groove Wear Inspection

When inspecting for wear, pistons with 15 ° trapezoidal rings use JDE62 piston ring groove wear gauges, and pistons with 6 ° trapezoidal rings use JDG957 piston ring groove wear gauges.

1. Use a suitable piston ring groove wear gauge (C) to check the wear of the trapezoidal ring groove (upper groove). Check ring grooves at multiple measuring points around the piston. The shoulder of the gauge should not be in contact with the piston ring port. A gap (D) between the gauge shoulder and the piston ring port indicates that the piston ring groove is in good condition. If the piston ring groove is worn, the piston and cylinder liner should be replaced in sets. If the piston ring groove is intact, proceed to the next step.
