The function of the crankshaft is to turn the reciprocating motion of the piston into a rotational motion, and output power to the outside to drive the auxiliary systems of the engine.
(1) Structure of Cummins diesel engine crankshaft
The crankshaft is divided into five parts: main journal, connecting rod journal, crank, front end of crankshaft, rear end of crankshaft.
1. Main journal: The main shaft supports the crankshaft. According to the main journal support, it can be divided into two types: full-supported crankshaft and non-full-supported crankshaft.
Fully supported crankshafts are characterized by bearing points on each connecting rod journal. The diesel engine uses a fully supported crankshaft.
2. Connecting rod journal: It is connected with the big head of the connecting rod and rotates in the connecting rod bearing (bearing pad).
3. Crank: The crank is the connecting part between the main journal and the connecting rod journal. In order to lubricate the connecting rod journal, the crankshaft is drilled with oil passages that penetrate the main journal, crank and connecting rod journals. Lubricants with a certain pressure enter the working surface of the main bearing through the main oil passage of the body and then pass through the oil passage inside the crankshaft It is sent to the working surface of the connecting rod journal to ensure reliable lubrication.
4. Front end of crankshaft: The front end of the crankshaft is equipped with timing gear and V-belt pulley to drive the fuel injection pump, gas distribution mechanism and oil pump, and to drive the fan, generator and water pump to work. An oil seal is installed at the cover of the timing gear room.

Cummins diesel engine crankshaft installation
1 The upper part of the spindle bush is provided with an oil groove and an oil inlet hole, which communicates with the bearing seat hole and the main oil passage. There is no oil hole in the lower spindle bushing, so care should be taken not to install it incorrectly, so as not to block the oil circuit.
2 In order to prevent the crankshaft from moving axially, a thrust bearing is installed on the fourth main journal.
Precautions for Cummins diesel engine crankshaft and spindle bushing installation
1. The main bearing cap and the body are integrally processed, so the main bearing cap is not interchangeable. The main bearing cap has a sequence number (1,2,3,4,5) and a triangle arrow direction mark (the arrow points to the front of the diesel engine during installation). , The number also starts from the front)
2. Each main bearing is provided with oil holes on the bearing pads. The bearing pads are steel backed aluminum alloy thin-walled bearing pads. The gap with the journal is not adjustable. When the gap exceeds the allowable limit after wear, it must be replaced.
3. When tightening the main bearing bolts, the two bolts on the same main bearing should be tightened to the specified torque alternately and gradually. Because the hardened washers are installed loosely, the main bearing bolts do not have lock washers.
4. The upper and lower spindle bushes must not be installed incorrectly.
5. When disassembling the spindle bushing, pay attention to the original order and direction, and store them in order. When installing, place the seats in the correct numbers and keep the original orientation (the two positioning lip of the same bearing should be on the same side).
6. When tightening the main bearing bolt, tighten it in the order of the middle and back ends, that is, in the order of 3, 2, 4, 1, 5, or 3, 4, 2, 5, and 1. Tighten it in two or three times. Tighten evenly to the specified torque and lock it securely.
7. When installing the connecting rod bearing, also pay attention to the direction and position conforming to the requirements, and alternately tighten the connecting rod bolt to the specified torque (120 ± 10N · m) 2 to 3 times and lock it securely.
Cummins diesel engine crankshaft and main bearing common problems
1. Huahua: The main bearing shoe was severely scratched by the crankshaft. The alloy layer of the main bearing shoe was worn away. The phenomenon that the bearing bush was thinned and stuck to the crankshaft was called "huahua". The chemical tile is mainly caused by the oil loss of the main shaft.
2. The upper and lower spindle bushings instead block the oil circuit.
3. Due to the large gap between the crankshaft and connecting rod bush, and between the crankshaft and the spindle bush, the diesel engine oil pressure is low.
4. The main bearing caps are installed in the wrong order and the crankshaft cannot rotate.
5. Crankshaft fracture: The crankshaft is one of the most severely impacted parts. Excessive load can cause the crankshaft to break.
6. Thrust shoe wear is serious, and the axial shift of crankshaft is too large. Thrust shoe wear is mainly caused by clutch coupling too fast in tractor use, and clutch coupling should be slow.
Cummins Diesel Engine Burning Fault Analysis and Elimination
The main reasons for the bushes are poor lubrication of the bushes and too small assembly clearance.
(1) The oil pump fails, and the motion pair is well lubricated: check whether the gear of the oil pump is loose, whether the gear gap in the pump body and the gap between the tooth top and the pump casing are too worn, and the oil pump must be replaced.
(2) The oil pressure gauge is invalid, the needle is fixed at a normal oil pressure position, but the actual oil pressure is low, which makes the bearing bush poorly lubricated: during the use of the machine, the oil pressure gauge cannot be used to judge the quality of the lubrication, and the oil must be monitored. Bit height and sound.
(3) The oil passage or oil filter is blocked: clean or replace the oil filter
(4) Low oil level: The oil level is lower than the bottom line of the oil scale, and the lubricant is filled in time. After the new machine oil is added to the center line of the oil scale, it should be driven for 5 minutes, and the oil level should be observed after stopping for 15 minutes. Fill the oil level to the specified oil level in time if it does not reach the center line of the oil scale.
(5) The weather is too cold and the oil temperature is too low and the oil viscosity is too large. The oil cannot immediately fill the pipes and the bearing pads. At this time, sudden acceleration will cause the bearing pads to wear quickly and be damaged. In this case, it should run at low speed for 10 ~ 15min.
